This is an authentic antique piece from the late 19th to early 20th century. The presence of the factory stamp significantly increases its value and authenticity. Bentwood designs became ubiquitous as seating for cafés and gardens. Inexpensive, durable, light, and ideal for export because components could be assembled after shipping, pieces such as J. & J. Kohn's chairs became perfect symbols of the new industrial age.

Kohn's furniture was very popular in the early 20th century, and it was featured in cafes, restaurants, and homes all over Europe and North America. The company's furniture was also used in a number of public buildings, including the Vienna State Opera and the Café Central in Vienna. The cane seat, the shape of the back, scrolled arms with rests and coloration of the wood would date this to the Art Nouveau middle period of the 1890s, when cane was all the rage - easy to clean, light, and affordable.
