Steam-bent solid beech, stained walnut-brown. Bentwood furniture was made by heating beechwood to around 100 C, pressing it into curved cast-iron moulds, then drying it for around 20 hours - a technique pioneered by Michael Thonet. The seat is hand-woven rattan cane - thin strips of rattan palm woven in a classic hexagonal pattern. Cane seat were standard on Thonet chairs. It is a natural material. A unique and very rare specimen that became part of a private collection.
