A set of four bentwood armchairs produced by Mundus — one of the foremost manufacturers of bentwood furniture in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The maker's mark is preserved: the manufacturer's name is stamped directly into the wood of the seat.

These armchairs are a classic expression of the functional aestheticism that defined Austro-Hungarian furniture design at the turn of the twentieth century. The construction follows an uncompromising logic: every element simultaneously bears structural load and composes the silhouette. The wide armrests, bent in fluid arcs, transition directly into the front legs - without a single seam or angular joint. The round solid seat of pressed plywood sits within a circular rail that simultaneously serves as the lower stretcher. The backrest - short, horizontal, gently convex - rests on two square-section connectors that continue naturally into the rear legs. The four splayed legs taper outward toward the floor, giving the chair a visual quality of both stability and lightness.

The material is steamed beech, bent using the proprietary process that defined the industry. The surface retains its original dark-brown stain beneath a patina of natural aging. On the seat edge of one chair, the inscription "MUNDUS" is legibly stamped directly into the wood - evidence of original factory marking.
