Restoration
Process

The wooden part is made of beech, using the wood bending technology. The pattern for the fabric from the “Nostalgia for Vienna” collection was created by the Viennese architect and bridge builder Josef Hackhofer in 1909. The stylized “peacock eyes” create a strict rhythm, and the restrained color palette emphasizes the conciseness of the design. The fabric from the Austrian factory Backhausen was used for the restoration.

Overall, Hackhofer’s work as a textile designer in the context of the Wiener Werkstätte is an important contribution to the history of Austrian modernism, especially in the field of textiles. His works were distinguished by their thoughtfulness, geometric and abstract patterns, as well as elegant colors, which made them popular at the time and relevant today.
